DESCRIPTIVE TEXT
Descriptive text is to describe a person, a place, a memory, an experience, or an object so that the reader can easily get the picture of what is being written about.

1. We use adjectives to describe nouns
Maria is tall, young girl (The adjectives here describe what Maria is like)
2. An adjective can go before a noun or as a complement after the noun
- It is a large stadium
- The stadium is large 
3. Position of adjectives (OSASCOMP)
a. The order in which you put adjectives in a sentence is very important. In English there is a rule:

Age
Shape
Color
Origin
Material
Purpose

  • Opinion – Adjective yang menunjukkan pendapat tentang sesuatu/seseorang.
  • Size/Dimension – Adjective yang menunjukkan ukuran besar kecilnya sesuatu/seseorang.
  • Age – Adjective yang menunjukkan umur sesuatu/seseorang.
  • Shape – Adjective yang menunjukkan bentuk sesuatu/ seseorang.
  • Color – Adjective yang menunjukkan warna sesuatu/ seseorang.
  • Origin – Adjective yang menunjukkan asal sesuatu/seseorang atau kenegaraan seseorang.
  • Material – Adjective yang menunjukkan materi yang membentuk suatu benda.
  •   Purpose - Adjective yang menunjukkan tujuan/kegunaan benda, sering berupa gerund (V-ing).

b.- Examples:
·         Opinion: beautiful, ugly, clever, expensive, pretty, funny etc.
·         Size: small, big, large, fat, thin etc.
·         Age: old, young, new, etc.
·         Shape: round, square, circle, oval, square, flat, rectangular, heart shaped, sphere, etc.
·         Color: red, blue, green, yellow, white, black, brown etc.
·         Origin: Spanish, Dutch, American, Indonesian, Javanese, Chinese, Italian etc.
·         Material: glass, paper, leather, plastic, wooden, metal, cotton, stone, etc.
·         Purpose: sleeping bag, baking pan, watering can, etc. 
  
  Example of Descriptive Text
   
     His name is Cristiano Ronaldo. We can call him as Ronaldo. But, Madridista (Real Madrid's fans) often calls him CR7. CR is the abbreviation of Cristiano Ronaldo, and 7 is his shirt number in Real Madrid. People know Cristiano Ronaldo is a good football player. He can run fast and dribble well.
     
    
His full name is Shahrukh Khan. He is often called King Khan, SRK, King of Bollywood, or King of Romance. He was born in New Delhi, India on 2 November 1965. He got married with Gauri Khan and has got two children. Shah Rukh Khan is tall. He has average body, dark short hair, pointed nose, and black eyes. He is good looking and a kind person. Shahrukh is an actor, a producer and a TV presenter. He has appeared in so many Indian movies. The famous movies he has ever played are Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and My Name is Khan.



Her name is Luna Maya. She is a model, a presenter and an actress. Luna Maya is tall and has slim body. Her face is pretty. She has beautiful round eyes, pointed nose, black hair, thin lips, and white skin. Luna has many lifetime achievements. She has ever won Panasonic Gobel Award as favourite actress of the year and the best music presenter of the year.

Asking and Giving Something

Expression of "Asking & Giving Something"

1. To ask for things, we can use the following sentences:
- Can I…., please?
- May I…., please?
- Can you…., please?


2. To give the things, we can use the following sentences:
- Here you are.
- Here it is.
- Okay
- Sure.
- Certainly
- Of Course.
- I would be glad/happy to ........

3. To refuse to give the things, we can use the following sentences:
- I’m sorry. I’m using it.
- Not now. I’m using it. Sorry.
- Not now. I’m using them. Sorry
- Sorry, I’m using it right now.
- Sorry, I’m using them right now.

4. To show our gratitude, we can use the following sentences:
- Thanks.
- Thanks a lot
- Thank you
- Thank you very much

5. To answer the gratitude expression, we can use the following sentences:
- You're welcome
- It's OK
- My pleasure
- No problem
- Don't mention it

Examples of the dialogue:
1. A : Can I borrow your pen, please?
    B : Sure, here you are.
    A : Thank you very much.
2. X : May I borrow bag , please?
    Y : Sorry, I’m using it right now.
    X : It’s okay
3. A : Can you help me carry these books?
    B : Certainly.
    A : Thanks a lot.
4. X : Can you turn on the lamp, please?
    Y : All right, sir.
    X : Thanks
5. A : May I use your text book, please?
    B : Of course, here it is.
    A : Thank you.

Note:
1. Can I have ……, please?
    Ex: Can I have a board marker, please?
    (artinya : benda yang diminta tidak dikembalikan)
2. Can you lend me your pencil, please?
    Borrow: meminjam (Can I borrow……, please?)
    Lend : meminjamkan (Can you lend me ……., please?)
